B.Sc., C.A.I.I.B, a professional banker with vast and varied banking experience.

The banking journey, spanning nearly four decades, commenced with branch operations.

Next came assignments of Credit Officer at Regional Office as well as Zonal Office; Branch Head of a Rural branch and Branch Head of Bhiwadi Industrial Area branch. The achievements led to elevation to Senior Management Group with which came the most challenging assignment. I was directed to directly assist the Operations Head of the Bank, a la Deputy Head, at Corporate Office. Though under Operations Head butinteracted regularly with the entire Top Managementon various operational issues. Besides major operational issues of various Banking Units, I also handled Credit Portfolio, Frauds, Policy, Re-organization, as well. I was also informally inducted as a member of the Head Office Credit Committee. I was Secretary of two Committees of the Top Management to oversee various aspects of the working of branches / Regional Offices / Zonal Offices. I was also designated as Secretary to the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of the Bank for Monitoring Large Value Frauds.

Next elevation, in 2005, led to another challenging assignment as Regional Manager. I was responsible for the business growth, smooth functioning, implementation of bank’s policies, etc. in branches under my administrative control and located in East Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The business growth in my two years’ stay was nearly Rs.1300 crores. I was, perhaps in recognition of my past track record, called back to Corporate Office to handle the technology based Financial Inclusion Project, even though I had a very limited knowledge of technology. The Project was for all the Associate Banks of SBI with charge given to SBBJ for technology selection, vendor selection, formulation of operational guidelines, etc. Me and my team came out winners and the trial runs were successful. The Project was then taken up for implementation by the Associate Banks and the operational guidelines were also replicated in SBI.

Lastly, the remaining service being less than 2 years and at my request, I was posted to my home town. However, the assignment was yet another challenge as I was made the Head of N.P.A. Recovery for branches located in Delhi and NCR. I completed the assignment with another round of appreciation by the Top Management.

The Banking Journey ended on 31.12.2012 on a successful and satisfactory note.

Next journey, six months after retirement, was in Private Sector when I joined a Company running a Shopping Mall and looking for Retailers and Food Courts to open their outlets in the Mall. Though a lot of effort was put in to attract retailers and food courts, the market sentiments did not support the expectations and the results were luke warm. I left the Company after 1.5 years.

Subsequently, I handled two assignments from two different group of promoters. The First was to study the market scenario, regulations and formalities required and help in setting-up an Asset Reconstruction Company. I had meetings with RBI officials and some ARC officials, known to me, for the purpose. The assignment was completed and handed over to the group of promoters for final move. However, their differing perceptions led to Project being not taken up by them.

The Second was to study the market scenario, the regulations, government policies, and formalities and help in setting up a Housing Finance Company. Detailed discussions were held with officials of ICRA to gather market scenario, some target areas were selected, and prospects were obtained through sources and finally discussions were held with some personnel from existing HFCs, known to me. Discussions were also held with officials of National Housing Bank, the regulatory authority for HFCs. Discussions were also held with a prospective Investor for participation in the Project. The assignment was then handed over to the group of Promotors for taking the final call.

“No Longer Employed, But busier than ever before”

After 35 years of working for corporates, rising from the bottom to the CXO suddenly one fine day took the decision to quit and venture on his own. The reason, in employment one doesn’t create a legacy! You leave the Chair and you cease to exist! Kissa Kursi Ka!

Chandan has been a serial entrepreneur after he quit his last job in October 2012 as CEO of the Non-Mobility Business in one of the Large Telecom Company owned by a foreign Telecom Group. He has a track record and a reputation of nurturing startups from conception to maturity, Airtel International Long-Distance Business is one of his such creation where he joined in March 2002 as business head and at CXO level even before this Business existed and left after Airtel after he achieved his personal set mandate of achieving an Annual Gross Revenues of US$ 1Billion in March 2007, which was his personal challenge to himself! His professional life was well planned and Vision in Action, he worked with great brands such as Xerox Corporation, HCL Limited, GTL Limited, British Telecom PLC UK & AT&T before joining Airtel! He never worked in any company for less than 5 years and more than 6 years as he believed that being anywhere less than 5 years you never learn enough and being more than 6 years, one becomes staple stock!

Chandan has always hungered and pursued his quest for learning and new knowledge that he did not possess earlier! In fact, he credits BT / Airtel / GTL for his innovative mindset, also, for his people Skills and assertive nature, he credits HCL / Xerox for these attributes.

During his journey over the past 40 years, he had mentored and coached more than 1000 professionals and more than 50 percent of them are extremely successful, well placed in large multinational corporations in high places not just in India but across the Globe! He mentions that these people are his investments and they are his returns.

Since 2013 Chandan has founded the Grupo Mañana and established & cofounder and is Mentoring a Telecom Company & a Marketing Company providing IT & Digital Marketing Services to large corporates and Startup companies. He’s now hands-off from routine operations, but he’s Pershing his own learning on Crypto, Digital Currencies, fintech, Agritech and Healthcare where his heart is immersed as there’s a lot to do in these areas where the latest technologies of IoT, Cloud Computing, Big Data, AR, AI, VR, Biotech, Telemedicine & Remote Diagnostics will all fuse leaving a challenge to humanity to cope up with intelligent machines.

In her s free time, which is rear, primarily since he’s practically engrossed for 18 hours, he pursues his passions & hobbies of Super biking, Archery, cooking, Reading, Writing. He hopes to return to his farm some day in the future and live in his farm in the outskirts of Pune.

Chandan lives with his family in Gurgaon where he moved from Mumbai in 2002, his wife Somali married with him since 1986, a professional by her own merit has been his constant support and his propeller to drive him for his pursuits.

Chandan Grew up in Mumbai completed his Electrical Engineering from Mumbai University and is an Alumni of XLRI. However, his biggest learnings have been under his superiors with whom he has worked over the years and received all his professional training under them. He aspires to give back whatever he received to youngsters with hunger and mentor them in their professional careers and their businesses.
